Hola!
I am Carlos Mauricio Restrepo, Classical Double Bassist born in Cali, Colombia & raised both in New Orleans, Louisiana USA & Toronto, Canada.
I have studied music in Toronto, New York City, & Montreal. My main teachers include Ed Tait (Former Assistant Principal Bass, Toronto Symphony Orchestra), Dylan Palmer (Principal Bass Vancouver), Jeffrey Beecher (Principal Bass, Toronto Symphony Orchestra), & Michael Chiarello (Associate Principal Bass, Toronto Symphony Orchestra).
Highlights of my stage experience include performing with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, playing chamber music alongside members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra & faculty from the Glenn Gould School of Music, as well as premiering contemporary music to Canadian audiences such as Tania León’s “Indígenas” with the Glenn Gould School of Music contemporary music ensemble.
I am currently an Orchestral Scholar at the Glenn Gould School of Music.
Beyond Music
I am a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning coach with 8 years of experience.
As a Strength & Conditioning Coach I have worked with a wide range of clientele, from entrepreneurs, amateur athletes, musicians, real estate agents & my mom. I have assisted clients in weight loss ranging from 10 to over 20 pounds, while increasing athletic performance and strength. My athletic background comes from 13 years of practicing Muay Thai Kickboxing, under Kru Brian Edwards & Kru Geoffrey Rutherford. I have taught Muay Thai Classes, at C4 MMA, Battle Arts Academy, Bell Mobility Corporate, & Training Grounds Muay Thai Academy.
My love for music & exercise has led me to interview Dr. Stuart McGill (World Renowned Back Expert), Graham Betchart (NBA Sport Psychologist), and Steven Low (Author of leading calisthenics book “Overcoming Gravity”) all with the goal of learning how exercise science can aid in producing better performance outcomes on stage and better health maintenance both physical & mental.
Being both a performing artist and a strength coach I have been able see how proper Strength and Conditioning protocols can aid in injury prevention, body awareness, & positive self efficacy.
